Cast.

Cecilia.

Born in Bakersfield California, Cecilia is a 1st generation US citizen striving to defy her family’s expectations by making it to college. At school she runs track and cross-country and she challenges herself in the classroom by taking multiple Honors and AP classes. But despite her good grades and school involvement, the road to college is much harder than she expected.

Keresoma.

Keresoma comes from a close-knit Samoan family where faith is highly valued. He and 9 family members live in a 2-bedroom apartment in south Los Angeles. At school he is a 2-sport athlete and president of the Pacific Islanders Club. He dreams of going to college for engineering, but has no idea how to get there.

Jess.

Hailing from four generations of Lake Isabella natives, Jess works with her mother in her family’s diner. Jess maintains a 3.8 GPA and is vice-president of student council. Although she desires to earn a college degree in medicine, the idea of leaving her small town and family behind may stand in her way.

Dontay.

Dontay lives with his mother in a welfare-subsidized apartment in Inglewood. He gets up every morning at 5:30 to take 3 buses and 2 trains to his high school in Watts. An ex-drug-dealer and gang-member, Dontay has since realized the importance of education but faces an uphill battle as he works hard to keep up his grades and earn a football scholarship.
